ChatGPT May Soon Access Your Work Tools and Record Meetings
OpenAI is quietly testing new features that could make ChatGPT a much more helpful everyday tool at work that can better connect with your apps and even join live meetings.
One of the most promising updates that’s being worked on behind the curtains is ChatGPT’s potential support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — an open-source standard that lets outside apps securely share real-time information with the AI when needed.
Rather than uploading data or retraining the AI, MCP lets connected tools temporarily “feed” ChatGPT the context it needs so it can complete tasks more accurately and efficiently. This could enable ChatGPT to do more than just answer general questions, which could potentially be a game-changer for many workplaces.
In an engineering firm, for instance, it might pull live bug reports to help troubleshoot issues. In finance, it could access current market positions or internal forecasts to draft client briefings or generate summaries. And in an architecture firm, it could pull data from a design database to help draft project briefs or flag missing documentation.
That means smarter automation, faster support, and more accurate insights. OpenAI also appears to be preparing to challenge Microsoft Teams’ Copilot integration with a new “Record” feature designed for live meetings.
Hidden code in recent updates to the ChatGPT mobile app suggests the tool will be able to perform functions like recording live meetings, pausing and resuming audio, and converting speech into text — essentially allowing ChatGPT to transcribe and summarize meetings on its own.
When active, the feature will reportedly let users “drag to talk,” generate post-meeting summaries, and get quick recaps of what was discussed. The app also asks for microphone and system audio access and includes reminders to get consent before recording — showing that OpenAI is accounting for privacy concerns.
